Acupuncture

The practice of acupuncture dates back over thousands of years, although the integration of this technique into the Western medical world is relatively new.
Many of the effects of acupuncture are poorly understood and can not be fully explained by medical science. One scientifically proven action of acupuncture is its powerful effects on pain. Pain is experienced by nearly all of us at some time, but for some individuals pain can become an overwhelming symptom. In such cases acupuncture may provide a welcome relief from pain by stimulating the release of the body’s natural painkillers – the endogenous opioids.

At West Parade Physiotherapy we have used acupuncture to good effect in overcoming pain. We also use acupuncture to relax tight muscles, disperse muscle ‘knots’, and facilitate relaxation to help our patients deal with pain better.

The following conditions can be treated with acupuncture
at West Parade Physiotherapy:

• Back pain
• Headaches
• Muscular pain
• Tennis elbow
• Fibromyalgia
• Osteoarthritis
• Sciatica
• Post-operative pain.
